Statement of “国生み”
私の生まれ育った兵庫県には淡路島という島がある。私が子供の頃、交通手段は船のみだった。
幼い私が家族に連れられて渡る島。実際の距離は約2kmと近い。しかし幼心にはとても恐ろしいと感じた。
日本最古の書物「古事記(8世紀初期)」ではイザナギとイザナミという神々のまぐわいによって大地が生まれた。それが日本国となったとあり、その始まりの大地こそが淡路島とある。
幼い頃に感じた異界に赴くような感覚、日本人として日本のルーツとされる淡路島。大人になった私がそれを同時に表現できないかと、私は今日も島に渡る。
Awaji Island in JAPAN, where I was born and raised.
When I was a child, the only mean of transportation to the Island was by boat.
My family took me as a child. The actual distance is closer, about 2km. But to my young mind, it felt very frightening.
In Japan’s oldest book “Kojiki (early 8th century)”, the earth was created by the gods Izanagi and Izanami. It is said that this became the country of Japan, and the land where it began was Awaji Island.
As a child, I felt the feeling of being transported to another world, Awaji Island, which is considered the root of Japan as Japanese person. I would like to express these feelings as a group of works. I’m going to the island again today.
